Too Mod to Handle

Too Mod to Handle
Mod's back in Spring collections from Louis Vuitton to Michael Kors. It’s clean and crisp, exactly right for the time of year when the world is starting over. A checkered coat can keep you warm on a chillier April morning, while a color-blocked shift dress can take you from work to the club at night. This season’s collection of mod style sets itself apart by taking the classic graphic prints and reworking them in bright colors or with a hint of a softer floral here and there. With this trend, keep your accessories minimalist, but feel free to throw in a relaxed drawstring bag for a more beachy feel to the trend.

Flower Power

Flower Power
Spring has come around, and with it a new take on the floral trend. Florals this year are less Little House on the Prairie or fifties housewife and much more graphic and playful. The prints come in exaggerated sizes as well as a collage of different floral and other digital prints. Designers have even mixed it up by using different fabrics. You can find your florals printed on leather and lace as well as cut out of those fabrics, which makes many more unique and fun ways of wearing them. Mixing a floral print with another floral print is anything but taboo, but if you want to work the trend in a less out there manner then mix a colorful floral shirt with a leather skirt embossed with flowers. It’s more subtle, but definitely just as intriguing. If you’re not inclined to wear head-to-toe floral prints, pair a classic pantsuit with a floral bag and shoes. Even if its dreary outside, this trend will encourage the spring mood everywhere you go.

Trends: Black, White, and No Need To Skin Pups
We’ve covered the white on white trend and the trend where you wear all the same color, now the fashion world has gravitated to the easy and classic black and white trend. What could be easier than wearing a combination of black and white from head to toe? It’s a timeless combination and any person with any style choices can settle on a black and white outfit. The key is to not look like Cruella Deville. That’s not hard to manage. Think of the trend as another way to color block. You can wear simple stripes or a black leather top and white pants with some strappy heels for a more kick-ass look. Just don’t go about skinning cute little Dalmatian puppies.

Metal Maintenance

Metal Maintenance
Have you ever wanted to shine for an event, or maybe even a person? Well with this trend you can, literally. Probably even figuratively. The metallic trend has taken over and is becoming the new basic. You can pair pretty much anything with a pair of shiny, silvery jeans and if the heel broke off of your nude pumps, then a metallic ankle-strap heel can easily take its place. A shimmering silver or a glossy gold can be paired with any color and you can be as elaborate or as demure as you want with this trend. Incorporate it only with chunky wrist cuffs and shoes, or wear it head to toe with a rose pink metallic trench from Burberry and a sleek Mary Katrantzou dress. No matter what you do, you’re sure to be the glimmer in a few different eyes.

Patchwork Blocking

Patchwork Blocking
I know, I know, I know. You’re thinking, “Patchwork, really? Are we living on the prairie? Is there not enough of one fabric to make a dress?” And you do make a valid point, but the designers who have come out with the new patchwork trend have updated it past Little House on the Prairie and into the realm of mod, sexy, and unexpectedly classy. Many of the designers are treating the patchwork as just another way of color-blocking and some are mixing and matching different fabrics into their patchwork. To counteract the busy fabric, keep your accessories simple and elegant. The patchwork is your key piece; your shoes, necklaces, and handbags are meant to accent it. As long as you’re careful not to overdo this trend, you’ll be catching eyes and turning heads left and right with admirers.
